Def Leppard

deflep•PARD

: Adjective used to describe a film made without warning that appeals to men in their 20s and 30s who wish they could still wear tight pants and be goofy teenagers. Stemming from the late-1990s/early 2000s “Def Leppard” clan that took root at Brigham Young University, universally known for their affinity for sporting Afros and appearing unabashedly at non-Halloween parties in tighty whities, speedos, wigs, etc.

This is the best term to capture the now well-established breed of movies such as Blades of Glory and the newly released Semi-Pro. Without seeing Semi-Pro, I can guarantee you that the original members of the little Def Leppard boy’s club will be there for opening night. Any movie promoted by Will Ferrell admitting the requirement of special underpants for filming in his spandex basketball shorts screams for a tribute to the special demographic (however small in number) that sees this kind of work as art.

My distinct memory of seeing D.L. perform in college involves their smallest and rowdiest member who could’ve been considered the group mascot. At a party hosted by a grandson at his well-known grandfather’s house, the mascot appeared in miniature underpants in the pool house and was performing cartwheels into the pool amid the hordes of fully clothed guests. Author, said grandfather and esteemed mind behind The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, walked by and just looked perplexed. Certainly that wasn’t what Mr. Covey meant when he discussed “sharpening the saw” and carefully selecting recreational activities.

Are you to tell me that the mogwai made an appearance at the Daine’s-hosted Steven Covey book signing party?

I see the comparison to the movie, but anything related to these merry friends should be retired.

I’m one of Def Leppard band fans. I do have a special love for their style. The band has really added a lot of things to rock music. I attend a lot of their concerts even though sometimes it becomes so hard to book a seat. A friend has recommended me a site for comparing ticket prices. If you love Def Leppard band don’t be rush to book. Take your time and save few dollars. Here is the link:
