Yesterday, we celebrated Ronald Reagan’s 98th Birthday.  This is one of my favorite tributes to him.

He was a great communicator, but I think his long-term political significance will end up being that he used his great oratory to pacify the small government movement that was larger and angrier in the 1980s. The size of the federal government doubled under his watch, and to an extent his fiscal policy served as an example to Bush II, who was revealed to be a fiscal nightmare even before the end of his first term. It was an exciting time to be a conservative in the 1980s, but looking back, I’d say that not much good was accomplished. Too bad.
